Pool Deck Pavers in Clearwater, FL
New pool decks, overlays and coping with surfaces chosen for bare feet, pool water and long afternoons in the Florida sun.
Pool deck pavers are pavers installed around a swimming pool, including the coping at its edge, selected for slip resistance, comfort underfoot and resistance to pool water, and sloped to drain away from the pool.
The deck is the part of the pool you touch most
A pool deck takes more abuse than any other paving on the property: wet feet, splashed pool water, chemicals, furniture dragged across it and full sun most of the year. It also has to work around a pool shell, plumbing lines and, often, a screen enclosure. That’s why we treat a pool deck as its own kind of project.
Color and texture matter more here than anywhere else. Lighter colors absorb less heat, textured or tumbled surfaces give better grip when wet, and the coping at the water’s edge needs a comfortable rounded profile. Some homeowners choose concrete pavers for their range of colors; others prefer natural travertine for its look and feel. We’ll show you both.
Pavers also make practical sense around pools: if plumbing ever needs to be reached, the pavers lift out and go back. Many of our pool projects continue past the deck into an artificial turf lawn, with paver pads set into the turf for a clean, low-maintenance yard.
Why pavers around a pool
Better footing
Textured paver surfaces and the joints between them give more grip than a smooth finished slab.
Cooler color choices
Light blends stay more comfortable underfoot than dark ones. No surface is cool at midday, but color makes a real difference.
Access when you need it
Pavers lift out if pool plumbing or a line underneath ever needs repair, then go back without a patch.
Designed with the yard
The deck can flow into turf, planting beds or a patio, so the pool area feels like one space.
Pool deck projects
- New deck around an existing pool
- Old concrete or worn pavers removed, new base and pavers installed up to the coping.
- Overlays
- Thin pavers set over a sound existing pool deck, keeping heights right at doors and drains.
- Coping
- Bullnose paver or stone coping at the pool edge, matched to the deck.
- Deck and turf combinations
- A smaller paved deck with turf and stepping pads around it for a softer, greener pool area.
Pool deck decisions
These are the choices we go through around a pool, where comfort and practicality matter as much as looks.
| Decision | What we look at with you |
|---|---|
| Material | Concrete pavers for color range and value, or travertine for a natural, cooler-feeling stone surface. |
| Color | Lighter blends for comfort underfoot; darker accents used sparingly in borders. |
| Coping | Rounded bullnose coping that is comfortable to sit on and grip, matched or contrasted with the deck. |
| Overlay or full removal | Overlay works on a sound slab with enough height; damaged decks are removed and rebuilt. |
| Drainage | Slope away from the pool and toward the yard or deck drains, so water doesn’t sit on the surface. |
| Screen enclosure | Working around existing enclosure footings and posts without disturbing them. |
How we build a pool deck
Assess the deck and pool edge
We check the existing deck, coping, drains and enclosure footings, then agree on materials and layout.
Remove or prepare
The old deck is removed carefully around the pool shell, or prepared for an overlay.
Base and slope
A compacted base is built with a slope that sends water away from the pool.
Coping and pavers
Coping is set at the pool edge, then the deck is laid with clean cuts at curves and drains.
Joints, cleanup and handover
Joints are filled and compacted, the deck is cleaned and the pool area is ready to use.

Pool Deck Pavers: common questions
Still deciding? Text a photo of your yard and ask Edilson directly.
Do pool deck pavers get hot?
Every outdoor surface warms up in full Florida sun. Lighter colors absorb noticeably less heat than dark ones, and natural travertine is known for staying comparatively comfortable. If the deck gets afternoon sun, we’ll steer you toward the lighter options.
Are pavers slippery around the pool?
Paver surfaces with texture, and the joints between them, give good grip when wet. We avoid smooth or polished finishes on pool decks. Keeping the deck clean of algae and buildup, especially in shaded spots, also helps.
Can you install pavers over my existing pool deck?
If the existing concrete deck is sound and there’s enough height at doors, drains and the coping, an overlay is often possible. Cracked or uneven decks should be removed. We look at the deck and the transitions before recommending one or the other.
Do pool deck pavers need sealing?
Sealing is optional, but around pools it can help with stains, pool chemicals and salt water. Whether it’s worth it depends on the paver and your pool. We’ll tell you what we recommend for your materials.
Can you work inside a screen enclosure?
Yes. Many pool decks in our area sit inside screen enclosures. We work around the posts and footings and keep the enclosure undisturbed.
Can the deck connect to turf instead of more paving?
Yes, and it’s a popular choice. A smaller deck with turf beyond it, often with paver stepping pads, gives you a greener pool area with less paving to heat up in the sun.
