Premium Artificial Turf Installation in Clearwater, FL

Lawns, side yards and pool surrounds that stay green without mowing, built on a base that drains and keeps its shape.

Artificial turf installation replaces natural grass with synthetic turf laid over an excavated, compacted aggregate base, giving homeowners a lawn that needs no mowing, fertilizer or regular watering.

A lawn that looks right all year, starting below the surface

Grass in Pinellas County has a hard time: summer storms flood it, oak shade thins it, and the sandy soil dries out between rains. Synthetic turf takes most of that work off your list, but only when it is installed on the right foundation. A good-looking roll of turf on a poor base will ripple, hold puddles and show every seam within a season.

That is why most of the time on a Nathell Services turf job goes into what you will never see. We remove the existing grass and roots, grade the area so water has somewhere to go, then spread and compact crushed aggregate in layers until the surface is firm and even. Only then does the turf come off the roll: seams are joined and hidden, edges are secured, and infill is brushed in so the blades stand up.

Turf also pairs well with hard surfaces. Many of our yards combine it with a paver patio, stepping pads or a travertine border, and if you play golf, a practice green can be built into the same lawn.

What turf changes in your week

  • No mowing, edging or fertilizing

The lawn stops setting your weekend schedule. Occasional brushing and a rinse keep the blades upright and clean.

  • No irrigation for the lawn

Turf does not need water to stay green, so the sprinkler zones that fed the lawn can be capped or redirected to plantings.

  • Built for play and pets

Durable fibers on a firm base handle daily use. For dog areas we plan drainage and infill so the space is easy to rinse.

  • Green in every season

No brown patches during dry spells, no bare dirt under trees, and no muddy tracks after an afternoon storm.

Where homeowners put turf

Backyard lawns
Full lawn replacement, shaped around beds, trees and patios with smooth curves or crisp straight edges.
Side yards and narrow strips
Shady, high-traffic paths beside the house where grass rarely survives. Stepping stones set into the turf keep a clear walkway.
Pool surrounds
Turf right up to the deck or coping, often with paver pads so wet feet have a hard surface to cross.
Pet runs
Dedicated dog areas with a base and infill chosen for drainage and easy cleaning.
Turf and paver designs
Checkerboards, turf joints between large pavers and stepping-stone paths that mix both materials.

What shapes your turf project and estimate

No two yards cost the same, which is why we don’t publish a price list. These are the decisions and site conditions we go over before giving you a number.

DecisionWhat we look at with you
Area size and layoutSquare footage, curves and how the rolls are oriented, which decides how many seams the lawn needs and where they fall.
Existing groundGrass, roots and debris to remove, roots from nearby trees, and low spots that currently hold water.
Base depth and compactionHow much crushed aggregate goes in and how it is compacted: the part that keeps the lawn flat and draining for years.
Turf productBlade height, density, color blend and backing. Softer products suit play areas; denser, more resilient ones suit heavy traffic.
InfillSand or alternative infills that support the blades and add weight; specific options for pet areas.
Edges and bordersHow the turf is locked at the perimeter: against pavers, gravel, concrete curbing or a bender board edge.

How a turf installation goes

  1. Measure and plan

We measure the area, check how water moves across it today and agree on edges, borders and turf product.

  2. Excavate and clear

Existing grass, roots and soil are removed to the depth the base needs, and the subgrade is shaped to drain.

  3. Build the base

Crushed aggregate goes down in layers and is compacted and fine-graded until it is firm, smooth and even.

  4. Lay and seam

Turf is rolled out with the grain running the same way, seams are joined and the perimeter is cut and secured.

  5. Infill, brush and walk through

Infill is spread and brushed in, the lawn is cleaned up, and we walk the finished yard with you.

Artificial Turf: common questions

Still deciding? Text a photo of your yard and ask Edilson directly.

How long does artificial turf last?

Lifespan depends on the product, how much direct sun it gets and how heavily it is used. Quality turf on a properly built base lasts many years, and turf manufacturers back their products with warranties that vary by product. We give you the exact warranty terms for the turf you choose, along with what our installation covers, before any work starts.

Does artificial turf drain when it rains?

Yes. Turf backing is perforated so water passes straight through into the crushed aggregate base, and we grade the subgrade so that water moves away instead of collecting. If your yard already floods badly, we may suggest adding a drain or catch basin before the turf goes down; see our yard drainage service.

Is artificial turf good for dogs?

It works well for dogs when it is planned for them. We pay extra attention to drainage in pet areas and can suggest infill made for pet use. Solid waste is picked up as usual, and a regular rinse with a hose keeps the area fresh, especially during the hotter months.

Does artificial turf get hot in the Florida sun?

It can. Like most outdoor surfaces, synthetic turf gets warmer than natural grass in direct midday sun. Lighter-colored infills, shade from trees or structures and a quick rinse before use all help. If the area gets full afternoon sun, tell us and we will talk through product options with that in mind.

Can turf go in shady areas under trees?

Yes, and it is one of the best uses for it, because turf does not need sunlight. The two things to plan for are tree roots near the surface, which affect how deep we can excavate, and falling leaves, which you will want to blow off regularly so they don’t break down in the blades.

Do I still need to water the lawn?

Not to keep it alive. Some homeowners rinse the turf occasionally to wash off dust or pollen, cool it down on a hot afternoon or refresh pet areas. The irrigation zones that served the old lawn can usually be capped or rerouted to your planting beds.

What separates a good turf installation from a bad one?

Almost everything happens below the surface: enough excavation, a compacted aggregate base, a subgrade that drains, seams that are joined so you can’t find them, and edges secured so they don’t lift. When those steps are rushed, the lawn ripples, puddles and shows lines within months.
